Step-by-Step Manual

  1. Run the zone to confirm the broken head Manually activate the sprinkler zone at the controller and identify exactly which head is cracked, spraying sideways, or not popping up.
  2. Dig around the sprinkler head Turn off the zone and dig a small circle about 6-8 inches around the head down to the riser pipe, being careful not to cut the supply line.
  3. Unscrew the old head from the riser Turn the old sprinkler head counter-clockwise to remove it from the threaded riser pipe underneath.
  4. Wrap threads and install the new head Wrap the riser threads clockwise with PTFE tape, then screw the new head on hand-tight until snug — don't overtighten plastic threads.
  5. Test and adjust the spray pattern Run the zone again, check for leaks at the base, and adjust the head's arc/radius screw so it matches the surrounding heads.
  6. Backfill the hole Once you're happy with the spray pattern, fill the hole back in with soil and tamp it down around the head so it sits flush with the lawn.
