How to Replace Squeaking Nylon Garage Door Rollers
Time required: 45-60 mins · Difficulty 2/5
Never remove or adjust the bottom bracket, cable, or the roller closest to the bottom bracket — those are under spring tension. Only replace rollers along the middle and top sections of the track with the door in the closed position and the opener disconnected.

Step-by-Step Manual
- Close the door and disconnect the opener Lower the garage door fully and pull the manual release cord to disconnect it from the opener so the door can't move unexpectedly.
- Clamp locking pliers below the roller you're replacing Starting from the top (never the bottom bracket roller), clamp locking pliers onto the track just below the hinge holding the roller you want to replace — this stops the panel from shifting.
- Remove the old roller Pull the hinge slightly away from the track and slide the old roller stem out of the hinge bracket.
- Insert the new roller Slide the new nylon roller's stem into the same hinge bracket and guide the wheel back into the track.
- Remove the locking pliers and repeat Remove the pliers and repeat the process one roller at a time for each worn roller along the middle and top sections.
- Reconnect the opener and test Reconnect the manual release to the opener carriage, then run the door through a full open/close cycle listening for remaining squeaks.
